HP pavillion dm4 "closing the lid" issue

I am setting up natty for a friend on her HP pavillion dm4 and most things are perfect (except the touchpad, but that is another issue).

When she closes the lid while in KDE the monitor goes black and only a hard reboot will help.

Any ideas?
