How well will the Intel HD Graphics 3000 run these?

The BEST way to answer a question like that is to burn a LiveCD or LiveUSB and test run the release you want to use. When it is up, activate desktop effects, if it is an available option under "Settings --> Desktop", and see how it flies. You can download apps like TORC or TuxRacer (or what ever it is called now) and see how they run. TORCs is an especially good test of 3D accelerated graphics, and you can download it while running a LiveCD IF you have enough RAM.

Be sure to test the md5sum of your downloaded ISO, burn it using DAO and at a speed <= 10X, then use the LiveCD test option on its menu to test the LiveCD, before you give the "Try Kubuntu" option a test.

I actually don't have it yet, it's the only option on the new lappy I want. I think I'll just go for it, with what info I've found- it should be sufficient...

      BTW-- I am thinking about an "2nd Generation Intel Core i5-2520M Processor ( 3MB L3 Cache, 2.50GHz )"
BTW2-- I usually burn optical media at 1/2 to 2/3 the max speed (I have burned quit a few coaster at full speed)

        Hi....

If at all possible, I would encourage you to find a comparable laptop that comes with a Nvidia chipset. There is a chance you might be disappointed with Intel as far as games are concerned. SuperTuxKart runs great on my GeForce 8600M GS.
