Okay... tried a separate mic and that works. Somehow it doesn't feel like an elegant solution, but it works so what the heck!

Thanks again for all the help.

Re: Mic not working in skype

        Hey Maiqiang!

I had the same problem as you but figured it out after an hour of battling. Its strange because I didn't need to mess around with this in 10.04 nor 10.10....

So I've got a webcam with an integrated mic on Kubuntu 11.04, but it just wouldn't take any input when i used a sound recording program nor Skype.

I'm not sure who the oversite belongs to, but heres the solution that worked for me:

        NOTE: First completely Quit Skype..

        1. install pavucontrol

        sudo aptitude install pavucontrol

        2. Startup Skype -> options -> Sound Devices -> Open Pulse Audio Volume Control

        3. Click the Recording Tab

        4. Back in the Skype Options Window, click "make a test call"

        5. Once it asks you to start speaking you should now see Skype under the recording Tab along with a dropdown menu to choose a sound device.

        6. Click the appropriate microphone under the dropdown menu.

This should work for most people with similar issues.

If not, play around with a combination of settings under the "Record", "input Devices" and "Configuration" tab.

Be patient, and you should find the combo that works for you!

        Cheers,
