SOLVED: Phonon in Narwhal does not recognise sound card

I have no sound at all anywhere after moving to Kubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal

If I go into System Settings>Multimedia>Phonon this is what I see:

Audio Output- Internal Audio Analogue Stereo

Audio Capture- as above + several variants of Ensoniq Audio PCI (ES1371 DAC2/ADC)

Sorry...having trawled through various settings menus and googled extensively...my eye was drawn to the little speaker icon next to the wifi sign...I clicked and looked at the slider..it was half-way up....but underneath it was muted!!

MUTED!!

Am I a donkey or what
