Is the "you have 177 updates" the Natty update?

Is the "you have 177 updates" in the KPackageKit tray-update applet the Natty update (from 10.10)? It's not clear.

If you are interested in upgrading to Natty from Maverick, follow these instructions to the letter.

There should be a separate line at the top with a link that will allow you to install the 11.04 updates. The 177 updates are for 10.10.

is it best to do these first? (before I update to natty?)

EDIT: Oh, and I meant to ask - does a 10.10 -> Natty online upgrade also keep all my installed packages (like firefox, build-essential, etc.) or do we start over from square #1?

          THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT2 - The Natty update thing fails reporting a network problem which doesn't exist, so I did the 190 package update to 10.10... now we'll try the Natty upgrade again

Nope - still borke. I get:

            Code:
W:Failed to fetch [url]http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/dists/natty/Release[/url] Unable to find expected entry (Source)/source/Sources in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
, E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Distribution upgrade process exited with code 1.
            Waaaaaa!

IMHO to upgrade over the internet from 1 version to another is fraught with risk. Too many things to go wrong.

I recommend you get the alternate cd, which you then use as the main source for your upgrade. This will do an upgrade in the true sense of the word, but in the event that it should go wrong (which tbh it can) at least you have an install medium to hand.

              Instructions here:

              https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NattyUpgrades/Kubuntu

If using the alternate cd method follow the section titled "Upgrade to 11.04 with an alternate CD"
