    [SOLVED] Firefox Assertion Failed problem.

I have a fresh install of Kubuntu 10.10 with all current updates installed.

I installed Firefox from the repositories with no problem.

If I attempt to add a bookmark to Firefox I get a "Failed Assertion" error.
I can click ok, and it will then allow me to add the bookmark, however it is still a problem that needs a fix on my system.

I have included an image of the error message.

Any help you could provide in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hi

Can you please say which version of firefox you have. Also when you say "fresh install" is this a virgin install (entirely from scratch) or did you already have a /home partition?

      Hi.

Yes it's a Fresh install. I formatted the drive and installed Kubuntu 10.10 from the live cd.
I added the appropriate repository so that I could upgrade my kde to 4.6.
I then updated the system to bring it up to current with something like 385 packages needing to be updated.

Firefox is installed from the repository and is 3.6.15.

      Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.15) Gecko/20110303 Ubuntu/10.10 (maverick) Firefox/3.6.15

My Kubuntu is also the 64bit version.

It seems that I've been able to resolve this issue however this morning, although somewhat unintentionally.

I installed Terminator this morning which is a terminal that I use because it allows multiple split windows and a few other options that I find useful, rather than using the default Konsole.

I installed it with: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install terminator

Here are the list of files that it installed.

The following NEW packages will be installed:
      gamin gconf2 gconf2-common gnome-mime-data gvfs gvfs-backends
      indicator-application libappindicator1 libart-2.0-2 libavahi-glib1
      libbonobo2-0 libbonobo2-common libbonoboui2-0 libbonoboui2-common
      libcdio-cdda0 libcdio-paranoia0 libcdio10 libdbusmenu-gtk1 libgail18
      libgamin0 libgconf2-4 libgdu0 libglade2-0 libgnome-keyring0 libgnome2-0
      libgnome2-common libgnomecanvas2-0 libgnomecanvas2-common libgnomeui-0
      libgnomeui-common libgnomevfs2-0 libgnomevfs2-common libgnomevfs2-extra
      libgvfscommon0 libindicator1 libjson-glib-1.0-0 libkeybinder0 liborbit2
      libproxy0 libsoup-gnome2.4-1 libsoup2.4-1 libvte-common libvte9
      policykit-1-gnome python-gconf python-gnome2 python-gnomecanvas python-gtk2
      python-keybinder python-pyorbit python-vte terminator

I'm not sure which file seemed to be missing but it installed whatever it was, so for me I'm ok with saying the problem as been resolved.

        Re: Firefox Assertion Failed problem.

I guess it would probably be helpful for others if we could figure out exactly which of those packages were needed. However if someone is having the same problem, and they want a quick fix they can do what I did.

        sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install terminator -y
