k3b default directory for ripping CDs

Is there a way to change the default directory for ripping CDs to something other than my home directory? There didn't seem to be anything for that in the k3b settings. I tried setting a different directory in the work path for the K menu item, but that had no effect.

You can use Dolphin and the audiocd:/ KIO-slave to rip your CDs. The nice thing doing it this way, is you get to put the 'output' where you want.

See Using audiocd:/ to rip a CD. It references using Konqueror, but I just tried it using Dolphin (here, in Maverick) and it works great.

Here - set "Target Folder" and click " Save current settings to reuse them later" does the trick.

I tried that (with Dolphin) but it doesn't seem any easier than k3b, and there's no obvious and easy way to capture the descriptor of the CD itself and turn it into a directory name.

Yes, that works. I can see how pwabrahams (and others, self included) would miss that, expecting to find this setting in Settings > Configure k3b...

Save current settings

It's not enough to save the current settings, I discovered - you also have to restore them the next time you use the window. It's easy enough, though -- just use the Restore icon next to Save. Otherwise you just get the default again, and the default, unfortunately, cannot be changed.
