I went to boot Kubuntu and I can get to the log in screen, but when I hit enter to boot Kubuntu ( into KDE) the splash screen is all that displays and the boot icons do not show up and it stops booting. Any ideas?

You have to give us more to go on. Tell us about your PC. Tell us about your Graphics card. Is this a new install or an upgrade?Windows no longer obstruct my view.

Was there a kernel update (that you remember)? Do you have more than one kernel version on the Grub menu? If yes, does the earlier kernel result in a full boot/log in to the Desktop?Windows no longer obstruct my view.

 Re: Won't boot

Huh? You said you have a Nvidia GeForce 6150 video card, so why would you be using xserver-xorg-video-intel? You should be using the custom built nVidia xorg file, yes?Originally posted by fiby6...I have had problems with xserver-xorg-video-intel before could this be the problem,...Windows no longer obstruct my view.

 Re: Won't boot

To be clear, you do get the KDM login screen, where you type in your password? Instead, when at the KDM Log in screen, log in to a tty session. Press Ctrl+Alt+F1. Once logged in, type:
Report back.Code:startx Windows no longer obstruct my view.

 Re: Won't boot

My guess is that something went wrong with your KDE update and removed your plasma desktop. Happened to me, I believe it masy be because I went straight from 4.5.1 to 4.5.3

Make sure you are connected to the net and do a terminal login.

 TypeReturn and enter password.Code:sudo apt-get install plasma-desktop

 What happens?
