Whenever I try to install an application I am told to insert the medium maverick meerakt, Any ideas?

Sounds like you still have the cdrom as an active repository. Open KPackagekit and go to Settings > Edit Origins and uncheck the deb cdrom repository.Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007
