[Solved] no boot after KDE Release Day 4.5.4 upgrade

I added "ppa:kubuntu-ppa" to my source list, updated packages and re-booted, and now I get a blank black screen at the end of the boot process - where I'd normally expect to see the splash screen before login

Is there a way to remove the packages from the root shell? I don't have ppa-purge installed

Yah I got that too, with a clean 10.10 install.

The odd thing is that a 10.10 Beta which I have upgraded to 10.10 release and now to KDE 4.5.4 on the *same* machine (just a different partion) is running fine.

My belief is you can fix it quite easily - the most likely issue is the failure to install plasma-desktop, especially if you are updating kde from the one that ships with 10.10.

Ensure you are connected to the internet, at boot select the recovery mode from the grub menu.

      Select the command prompt

      At the prompt type

      Code:
      sudo apt-get install plasma-desktop
If my hunch is right the package (and probably a couple of others) will be downloaded and installed and on reboot you will be up and running.
