nVidia Quadro NVS 130M and HP ZR22/24w monitors

The past days I tried to get a second monitor connected to my Toshiba Tecra laptop.
The laptop has a nVidia Quadro NVS 130M video card and a 1680x1050 screen and has a VGA output.
The first monitor I tried was the HP ZR22w with 1920x1080 pixels and I found it impossible to get to run together with the laptop screen in Twinview mode.
Whenever I set the two monitors in the nVidia utility to their native resolutions the laptop screen would go black.
When I set one or the other to a different resolution they would both work.
Various settings in xorg.conf didn't work either.

Because of a different reason, for Photo editing I wanted more vertical screen, I changed to the 24" version with 1920x1200 pixels and now all works fine from the moment I plugged the monitor in!

I doubt it has anything to do with the make of the monitors but more with some resolutions not being compatible in the present nVidia driver version 260.19.06.

While a slightly different issue, you still might want to review Re: Dual Head configuration w/out xorg.conf? and look at using xrandr.

Yes I tried, the desired resolutions were available but once set the laptop monitor would turn black.
During the next boot I even had to log in to the CLI and replace xorg.conf with a spare copy before being able to log in to X on the regular screen.
