solved: HP Photosmart D6160, prints nothing at all.

    Hi
I have a problem with my Printer: HP Photosmart D6160. All drivers are installed, I can see the HP Device Manager. When I click on Print Test Page, the printer reacts, but does produce just an empty sheet of paper. Looking up theprinting status window, the job is listed but marked as stopped. This is for a print out of a simple Kate document or a webbrowser print. If I print out of OpenOffice, the situation is worse: After the print order, nothing happens except continuous blinking of the data reception button and also a continuing blinking of the paper feed button. If I print out of Gimp, it is identical with a text file.

    Has anybody any idea?

This is my last issue for a complete changeover from Windows to Kubuntu. Under Ubuntu 09.10 the printer run successfully, as it does also under Windows XP.

Per http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web...00_series.html this printer is fully supported and recommended.

Are you running HPLIP 3.10.2 or better? Under the Printer Control tab, are "Started/Idle" and "Accepting Jobs" showing green , with "Default Printer" checked? Are the cartridges showing up as "Good/OK" under the Supplies tab?

http://localhost:631/ for cups and see if something looks wrong there...

Re: HP Photosmart D6160, prints nothing at all.

@ jglen: thanks for your response. I have «hplip 3.10.6». «Started /Idle» and «Accepting Jobs» show green, «Default Printer» is checked. Yes the cartridges show up as full; I have a «Continuous Ink System» and do not have to buy cartridges, saving at least £200/year on ink cost.

@kjjjjshab: thanks to you too. However i do not understand exactly what you mean or what I should do on that page.

I was just about half an hour ago in XP to print a few pages, all worked well there... However, I checked in the KPK «Cups» and see that hplip-cups is installed (among a lot of other *cups* files). May it be better to delete this?

        Thanks again for your help.

Re: HP Photosmart D6160, prints nothing at all.

I would not recommend un-installing any part of hplip. Each part is supposed to play its own part in working between the HP hardware and the CUPS system.

You could try to un-install your printer within HPLIP and then re-installing the printer within HPLIP. Then run the cartridge cleaning and align utilities within HPLIP.

I recently obtained a Deskjet 3845 to replace my old DJ3450. My first shot at printing a test page failed. I think, but am not sure, that the CUPS registration of the new printer and the HPLIP install may have stepped on each other. After re-doing the HPLIP install, running a test apge, and aligning the cartridges, all was well.

            Hi jglen

That seems a good idea, I had thought along those lines too, but I am nor sure how to do it. Could you show me the way?

I have also rechecked, that I have the version 3.10.6 active.

Now I found, I have a version 3.10.9 (hplip-3.10.9.run) in my /home/download/hp_printer folder. Obviously I tried to install this twice, because I have in this folder a subfolder (/hplip.3.10.9) with two log files, the first dated 01/11/2010 02:19, with 3.0KiB, the second dated 01/11/2010 02:19 with 23.1 KiB

              I'll give it a try.

First, it looks like there may be competing installs going on.

Post the outputs from the following

              First,in a konsole enter:
              Code:
              hp-toolbox -h|grep ver
              Then again in konsole enter:
              Code:
              dpkg -l hplip*
AFter we look at the output from the two konsole entries, I think we will need to do is a
"search and destroy" mission on all existing HPLIP versions.

And somehow this thread became really WWWWIIIIDDDDEEEE!!

While it's always possible to use the HPLIP installer from HP's site, it's usually best to use the version that came with your distro.

EDIT: I see where a couple of your codebox displays are really wide. I'm not sure that you can edit them to make this thread a little easier
to read. If not, then please start a new thread, and maybe we can keep things under control.

                Continuation from http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...8786#msg248786

Hi. Sorry to have to open a second topic, I do not understand what happened in the other.

So, thank you, jglen, for your response. I would not be opposed to uninstall everything and reinstall the drivers anew. Which one should I take? The «hplip 3.10.6» which is in the repository or the downoaded «hplip 3.10.9.rum»?
As per your suggestion I post here the result of the two console queries:

try using the quote tags instead of code when pasting the logs, the code tag seems to make the pastes stuff extra wide (whitespace in the copied text maybe?)

                  I fixed that for you

merging this back into the original

                      Claydoh and Snowhog --

Thanks for your intervention. It's a lot easier to read

                      Arran --

I don't see any evidence of 3.10.9, but if you were able to start the "hplip 3.10.9.run" package, it's possible that parts of it are laying around.

I would recommend removing 3.10.6 through your package manager or enter:
                      Code:
                      sudo apt-get purge hplip
in a konsole. The "purge" option should remove any configuration files for hplip.

Then remove the hplip 3.10.9.run package.

Then use your package manager or enter:
                      Code:
                      sudo apt-get install hplip
                      in a konsole.

In looking at HP's release document for 3.10.9, it doesn't seem to have any fixes or issues pertaining to your printer, so it's probably not necessary to update from the 3.10.6 to the 3.10.9 release.

Hi. All your help has at last brought success! I uninstalled via KPK the driver hplip 3.10.6, Took the printer out of the active printers, restarted the computer, replugged the printer and checked its accepteance. This was OK and I could print a test page. Then I installed the Driver again, restarted the machine and printed another testpage. All was OK. So I could at last pruce my 20 Brochures A4 of 4 pages verso and recto print.

A big «Thank You All!!!» to everybody here and at the German Kubuntu-Forum who helped me.
