No networking (knetworkmanager uninstalled) & nm-applet doesn't work

I had upgraded to the RC the other day and lost networking. When I checked, I noticed the package that contains knetworkmanager had been uninstalled. Fortunately I still had nm-applet (which comes with the gnome networking package) but when running it it just says that an instance nm-applet is already running. But if that's true then why isn't it showing in my system tray? And why wouldn't it be conencting to my auto wireless connection?

I'll have to try to install the kde networking package via cabled internet, I suppose and see what happens. But anybody else having this issue? Is there a way to get nm-applet to work? (I'll need it later for connecting to my University's eduroam network which doesn't work with knetworkmanager, unfortunately.)

Maveric comes with a new widget which replaces the KNetworkManager. I guess it's running without being showed in the system tray. Just add the widget to the panel to see what's going on.

      or if you want nm-applet
      sudo apt-get install network-manager-gnome
you will need to remove the kde network manager with either
      sudo apt-get remove plasma-widget-networkmanagement
      or
      sudo apt-get remove network-manager-kde
if it's a clean install it should be to remove plasma-widget-networkmnagement, an upgrade will prob need to remove network-manager-kde

then go system settings>startup and shutdown>add program. nm-applet
      restart

Thank you--that's correct. I figured it out later when I attempted to install KNetworkManager and it told me that I needed to remove plasma-widget-networkmanagement. I tried the new widget before I uninstalled it, and liked it, but I didn't like the fact that it resides outside of the system tray. So I ended up replacing it with KNetworkManager which would, ideally, work exactly like the plasma widget.

This plasmoid can be also placed in system tray -> use "System Tray Settings" and enable it ...
