Re: really horrendous upgrade this morning...

After reading the horror stories here, I also held off for a few days. I just now ran
    Code:
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
    and here's what I saw:

I finished it, and I can now report, with guilty pleasure, that I'm playing youtube videos while verifying the java version at http://www.javatester.org/version.html

I dunno -- it seems flawless. I think you guys aren't living right, or something.

Okay, I know for sure that muon doesn't respect blocked updates now - at least it didn't today. muon just offered me ten updates while apt offered me nine and blocked libavformat-extra-52.

edit: Also, today's bluedevil update fixed my kdeinit4 crash. Things work pretty fast - I got an email on the bug this morning saying "fix committed" and now it's fixed

Re: really horrendous upgrade this morning...

I continued to have trouble with my VM copy of 10.10, so I decided to start new and install it again and see what would happen.

After the install, I skipped the Kpackagekit route and went straight the command line.

apt-get downloaded 399 updates, and another 6 after reboot.

But the login errors are gone, and (so far) everything is working.

Re: really horrendous upgrade this morning...

Last night I did a normal apt-get update & dist-upgrade on my Maverick guest OS and I got my mojo ... errr .. desktop back!

I noticed a peculiarity though. When the desktop loading splash screen displays the stages of loading it appears to crash once and then quickly restarts where it left off. The desktop display. I am able to install the VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run with the exception that it could not install the X server additions because it didn't recognize the xserver. So, I am still stuck on 800x600.

Using todays daily-live fixed my issues. I no longer get the gui-loop or the init4 error.

I upgraded it today and I still have the same issues I had before the upgrade plus I can't open System Settings or if it ever opens, I can't click on any option because it crashes at once...

Re: really horrendous upgrade this morning...

Is anybody using 10.10 in a VM Workstation environment? I can't get the screen to go any bigger than 800x600. If I resize it, when I reboot, it defaults back to 800x600.

                  I've got the VMtools installed.

Other than that, it's running pretty smoothly in a VM environment.
