    mplayer not complete?

I just upgraded a laptop and a netbook from 10.04 to 10.10 and noticed on both mplayer won't work as expected.
mplayer-gui seems to be absent but gmplayer and smplayer as frontend do function.
Is this a problem with my settings or is it more general?

You can install mplayer-gui from the repository if you want it.
You might want to visit Medibuntu.org and see if it can be of help to you.

Ah yes, I forgot to re-enable medibuntu.
But mplayer-gui is not available right now.

Patience will (have to be) be my virtue :P

        /usr/share/doc/mplayer/changelog.Debian.gz:
        mplayer (2:1.0~rc4~try1.dsfg1-1ubuntu1) maverick; urgency=low
        ...
        * gmplayer is gone now, please see smplayer as alternative frontend...
Maybe it is this > [MPlayer-dev-eng] I'd rather remove gmplayer from the mplayer package

The mplayer-gui/gmplayer can be installed from the Lucid package or earlier Maverick packages.

I really don't see why any even remotely sane person would want that? mplayer-gui/gmplayer stinks like a three months dead herring

It's just as it says on the ml:

Especially with a great frontend like Smplayer around (which works perfectly fine on Maverick), you should be concerned about your mental health if you still want to use mplayer-gui/gmplayer.

My wife and I, upon reading the health benefits of Nato, obtained some. Compared to Natto I suspect that 3 month old dead Herring is a gourmet food. This website describes accurately what we experienced. It was a "health" food. Our health and feeling of well-being improved enormously when we dumped it in the trash. None of the wild animals touched it.

You'll absolutely love Natto. Just look how yummy it looks already:

                      Interesting reading.

So far I never had serious problems with mplayer-gui and the reason I preferred it over say VLC was because it's effective keyboard short cuts.

And I must say the key bindings of both gmplayer and smplayer have gotten a lot better than they were a while ago.

You can easily customise the keayboard shortcuts in Smplayer if you don't like them. Simply click on the screwdriver icon to enter the seetings, click on "Keyboard and Mouse" on the left. Now either select an entry and click on "Change shortcut", or double-click an entry in the list to change it. If you changed it and seet an exclamation mark in front of it, that means it's currently inactive because another entry is using the same keyboard shortcut. Look for the other exclamation mark in the list and change the shortcut.
