VB guest OS of Maverick won't ...

    install.

I downloaded the 64bit Maverick daily build for today (9/4/10) and burned the ISO. It passed the tests.

I booted and and ran it as a LiveCD (it took a LONG time to boot up).

I created a guest OS using VirtualBox and setting 2 CPUs. It refuses to boot. The error message is:
    Unknown error creating VM (VERR_VMX_MSR_LOCKED_OR_DISABLED).
Nothing on the web about this error that I could find.

I will be checking Tuesday's daily build.

All sorts of hits when I Google search on: virtualbox error VERR_VMX_MSR_LOCKED_OR_DISABLED

Ya, those are the kind of useless hits I got. Everyone says to go into the BIOS and turn VM-T on.
But, both my XP and my LinuxMint9, work fine. THey are both 32 bit. IF I use the 32bit Maverick I can create a guest. It's only when I use the 64 bit Maverick that the boot fails with that message. Within the VB settings I can turn off VM-T and Nested Paging, but when I click OK VB turns the VM-T back on, with the message that if it isn't on I can get video.

It's not a problem with the Maverick LiveCD, because I get the message if the CD is in the drive or not. The error occurs when VB attempts to open the console window for displaying the boot up messages.

Since the kernel was updated I also reinstalled VB in order to rebuild its kernel connections.

So, I'm beginning to think that it is an error with either VB's ability to create 64bit guests, or a conflict between VB and the kernel. 2.6.32-25-generic.

For grins and giggles I booted into my BIOS to see if it did have a vm-t setting.

In the two years I've owned this Sony VAIO VGN-FW140E laptop I had never looked at the BIOS. Yesterday I took a look. I was SHOCKED : to discover that my BIOS has almost NO settings in it beyond setting a password to lock the device at boot time. I can't change boot order, date, IRQ settings ..... almost nothing.

I downloaded the 9-4 daily build of the 32bit Maverick today to see how it went.
The md5sum passed and my burn & verify passed.

The only problem is that the CD won't boot. It won't even mount on my Lucid desktop.

I'll try the next daily build.
