Please add a "no bootloader" option

    Hi,

I am not sure if this is the right place to say this, but I decided to try Kub 10.10. In my setup I have Ubuntu 10.04, Arch Linux and Windows 7 and I want to keep only one bootloader (grub that comes with Ubuntu 10.04). Basically, I want to install Kub 10.10, then boot into Ubu 10.04, run update-grub and then boot into Kub 10.10. However, the installer doesn't give me an option for "don't install bootloader" under "manual/advanced".

    Thanks

You always need a bootloader, otherwise the OS can't boot.
If you don't want your current bootloader in the Mbr to be overwritten, install the bootloader to the same partition where you're installing Maverick to, just select the partition from the Advanced options.

10.10 is still in development, its installer especially. it could be that the option button is simply missing. You may want to file a bug on it.

Also there should be an option to update the installer at the beginning of the process - there may already have been a fix

...apparently the beta installer doesn't have the updater yet as well maybe a newer daily build will have it back

I just want to use the current;y installed bootloader from Ubuntu 10.04. I will try your advice to put the bootloader on another partition.

        Thanks

actually it is there, it has been moved, It is in the manual partiton (advanced) section.

But no option to not install one at all, just to put it to a partition other than the mbr

installing grub to a (non-mbr) partition is a safe thing to do, so at least for now if there is no option to skip it, it won't mess with another grub

And remember you will have to run
                Code:
                sudo update-grub
from the OS that is currently providing the bootloader to detect and list you new install.
