    Is there a way...?

I know this may be a big leap but I do not have a CD burner on my computer, just a CD Drive. I have Kubuntu Lucid, is there a way within Kubuntu that I can upgrade the Maveric Meerkat through Kubuntu, like within the terminal (something like sudo apt-get maveric meerkat pre release) just for testing? Or will I really have to download it and find someone with a burner to burn to a cd for me, or can I do it with a flash drive, and if so how big does the flash drive have to be, mine is 2g.
    Thanks
    The linux dummy,
    David

You can do a network upgrade, but if you don't have at least a 10Mb bandwidth connection I wouldn't do it that way. I'd wait until they release Maverick and then get a CD for your architecture mailed to you, or have a friend burn one for you.

EDIT: I suggested the CD because your PC's CDROM didn't burn, which may mean it is old and probably doesn't boot from a USB port either.

You can use your USB drive (My optical drive doesn't work anymore, so I'm using usb flash drive for all installations and updates on different computers), 2GB is more than enough, but it will be formatted so make sure it's empty.

Goto KMenu -> System - > Startup Disk Creator. Once you have created your USB disk, update process will be same as with CD Rom.

Yes, by all means create a USB startup disk, it's probably the best option. However, there is a gotcha with Maverick, in that Startup Disk Creator in Lucid doesn't actually create a bootable Maverick USB drive without some massaging. See the post in this forum entitled: "Maverick fails to boot from live-usb.(Solved)".
