Members of the ~kubuntu-users team on launchpad can now test out the
Ubuntu Font which is currently in beta testing. Anyone can join this team.

    We are considering...

    Edit

    > PPA access granted for ppa ubuntu-font-beta-testing:
This has now been closed due to lack of feedback. The font will be
released under a Free licence soon.

HTML by default in KMail ?

        > About kubuntu-devel >> HTML by default in KMail:

At Akademy I queried the current and past KMail maintainers about HTML
by default in e-mails. They seemed to agree that it was a bit old
fashioned to be keeping it off and agreed it would be fine to turn it
on by default (in Kubuntu and upstream). It seems unfriendly to me to
show a message with most e-mails that the programme is hiding
        something from the user.

KMail has large warnings in it's config box about security problems
that might magically appear. I can imagine it would help with
phishing. I could also imagine javascript security problems, although
I'd hope javascript isn't allowed in Kmail e-mails I could be wrong.

As someone who uses a terminal programme for my e-mail I doubt my
opinion weights for much but I'd like to hear thoughts people have on
        the setting.

          Re: Maverick - KDEPIM/Video player/font/browser/...

By the time, I got to read it, the Kmail thread was already quite long. So, I'll simply state my own views here because, since I'm neither a developer or a Kmail user, my opinion is totally irrelevant.

          (1) An acquaintance, who was the principal author of one of the programs that either (a) brought the NYSE to its knees recently, (b) wrote the program that saved the NYSE, or (c) is used by a VERY large brokerage firm, but had nothing to do with the stock market glitch, once told me, that many/most html "broadcast" emails contain "1pxl x 1pxl" image links that track the i.p. addresses of the readers. These can then be used with standard web tools, that we can all learn how to use, to obtain a great deal of information about the recipient of the email IF THEY READ IT WITH HTML activated. She actually used to do this "data mining" herself, when she worked for a firm that sent broadcast emails, early in her career.

          (2) On Gmail, I get at least a dozen spam emails per day wherein the son of the former Nigerian oil minister is selling pills to enhance my sexual prowess, while I play internet games of chance and click here for aerial views of the swimming pools of the stars, until the alarm on my inexpensive Rulix watch fails to function (I guess I should have given it a Viagra pill). Fortunately, either HTML is deactivated by default on Gmail or I deactivated it when I signed up years ago. Just for laughs, I sometimes look at the code of these emails just to find the trackers. Never open an email from Singapore or Panama unless you know the author (and it isn't you).

Accordingly, I feel that it would be an ENORMOUS disservice to new Kubuntu users to automatically activate HTML email in Kmail To do so, who would be an implicit statement, that the Kubuntu community really is an elitist clique that doesn't give a flying fig about unsophisticated users. We can leave that M$.

            Split

            The "kubuntu-restricted-extras" is now "kubuntu-restricted-extras" and "kubuntu-restricted-addons".
The "kubuntu-restricted-extras" will install the "kubuntu-restricted-addons"

            kubuntu-restricted-extras
            Version: 41

            Depends: kubuntu-restricted-addons
            Recommends: libavcodec-extra-52, libmp3lame0, unrar, ttf-mscorefonts-installer

Description: Commonly used restricted packages for Kubuntu
This package depends on some commonly used packages in the Kubuntu
            multiverse repository.
            .
Installing this package will pull in support for MP3 playback and decoding,
Java runtime environment, Flash plugin, DVD playback, and LAME (to create
            compressed audio files).
            .
Please note that this does not install libdvdcss2, and will not let you play
encrypted DVDs. For more information, see
            https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...ts/PlayingDVDs
            .
Please also note that packages from multiverse are restricted by copyright
or legal issues in some countries. See
            http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/licensing
            for more information.

You should not install this package directly, but instead install the
