    Create new desktop shortcut

I should know this one, but haven't used Linux for a while.

I want to create a shortcut to my Gmail sign-in page on the desktop. I've tried browsing to the page and creating a shortcut in the browser... then trying to drag that shortcut to the desktop, but that doesn't work.

    Anyone help with this one??

    Thanks
    Bob

Don't think there is a direct way to do this, but I can think of two indirect ways:

    1) Create a shorcut to a url in dolphin and drag that to the panel/desktop
    2) Create a menu entry (right click kmenu > edit applications) for the command: kde-open http://www.example.com (this will open your default browser or other application based on the content of the argument, ie kde-open $HOME/file.txt will probably open kate). You can also launch the browser directly this way by placing for example, firefox http://www.example.com in the command box and then drag this new menu entry fro kmenu to the panel/desktop.
