    [SOLVED] Synaptic APTCache Limit error

    I have just reinstalled Lucid (after trying, with unfortunate results, to move from Maverick to Natty) and was adding the "unstable" Debian sid repository to Synaptic when I got this error:

    E: Dynamic MMap ran out of room. Please increase the size of APT::Cache-Limit. Current value: 25165824. (man 5 apt.conf)
    E: Error occurred while processing tex-gyre (NewVersion1)
    E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/ftp.de.debian.org_debian_dists_sid_main_binary-i386_Packages
    E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
    E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

    Can anyone help with how to "increase the size of the APT::Cache-Limit"? I looked at man apt.conf but no obvious fix was apparent. Google turned up advice to add a line to etc/apt/apt.conf.d/70debconf (for example, http://linux.chrissweeney.co.uk/topic.php?t=49 ). Does that sound OK?

    EDIT: That did it. I'm now able to use Synaptic again
