    Problems with serverx during installation

Hi, I'm trying to install Kubuntu 10.04 on my new notbook Samsung N150 from an USB device. I already have installed kubuntu 10.04 on other netbooks without problems with the same USB device. Now, after the splash screen, which seems to bo regular, I get a terminal (in all tty, even in 7th tty). I tried to make serverx run with

    serverx

but the only thing I get was

    Fatal error:
    Cannot open log file "/var/log/Xorg.0.log"

In addition to that, sometimes the terminal gives me this error message:

    [...] EXT3.fs error (device loop1): ext3_add_entry: bad entry in directory #2049: directory entry across block - offset=0 inode=..., rec_len=..., name_len...

    Please, help me, thanks

Hmm. The Samsung N150 (-11) contains the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150, which should not cause any problems (that I'm aware of). But to eliminate the GPU as a possible source of the problem, press the F4 function key from the initial menu and choose Safe Graphics Mode. IF that option isn't available in F4, then press F6 and choose to edit the boot line and add –xforcevesa to the end of the kernel line. Pres Enter to continue to boot.

I haven't that option in "Modes" menu (opened with F4), but i cannot find how to modify boot line in "Other option" F6 menu...

even if adding -xforcevesa, I get the same error as before

Well that at least confirms that your GPU isn't the problem.

                In the tty, type:

                startx

                serverx isn't a command.

Check to see that the file exists and if it does, the permissions/ownership it has:
                    Code:
                    ls -la /var/log/Xorg.0.log
                    You should see:
                    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 27595 2010-10-03 10:37 /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(the size and date/time stamp will be different of course)

can you check to see if it (you'r usb stick) will still boot on a box it worked on before.

                        this trouble's me
                        [...] EXT3.fs error (device loop1): ext3_add_entry: bad entry in directory #2049: directory entry across block - offset=0 inode=..., rec_len=..., name_len...
their may be file system corruption from say....maybe unplugging it wile still mounted?
