    Problems Booting

After three months without using Kubuntu, I did an update and can no longer boot.
The system boots okay to the splash screen and then I get a black screen with the words

    ian: login

I put my login and password. It appears to start booting again but then reverts back to the black screen as sudo. It is as if I am in a terminal and cannot get out of there.

    Any suggestions?

Verify that you actually have enough space left in your root partition. Reboot and at the Grub menu select recovery mode. From the CLI type:
    Code:
    df -hT
If your / partition reports at or very near 100% (Use%) then you need to do some house cleaning to regain space.
