Re: Only for those with Kubuntu 10.04 and KDE 4.5

Hmm, this is interesting. I did not have this issue with 4.4.5, it started once I updated to 4.5. Perhaps someone can shed light on
    what this can mean...?

Re: Only for those with Kubuntu 10.04 and KDE 4.5

I actually switched back to 4.4.5 from 4.5 due to some other bug issues. That probably has something to do with why I'm affected.

Nah, I already had that very same issue on 4.4.5 even before I updated to 4.5.0.

Okay then, shouldn't the title of this thread be changed? That way 4.4.5 users will be able to read it too.

Yes, it should. How can I change it?

edit: nevermind, I just changed it.

Clean installed Maverick this morning - I still have the problem.

Interestingly, it *wasn't* doing it when I installed Maverick and I rebooted the machine probably 15 times after I got all my software installed. It started after the round of updates late this afternoon.

                    update:

After this morning's 32-bit Maverick updates the the problem seems to have resolved itself. Also, I installed today's 64-bit daily build on my desktop PC and it appears to be shutting down cleanly as well.

                    So far, so good

Judging from the updates, is there any particular package you believe was causing the problem?

I tried stopping the cups daemon (sudo /etc/init.d/cups stop) before shutting down, but I still have an unclean shutdown... To be honest, I have stopped bothering with this anymore, and I am shutting down with telinit...

I found out by accident a possible solution.

                            1) Turn your computer
                            2) When you get to kdm, switch to virtual terminal ( Ctrl+Alt+F1 )
                            3) sudo restart kdm
                            4) Shut down/reboot now should work fine

Can you please confirm that this works for you? If so, then I (again) believe that this is KDE issue.

Also, as a further step, in order to avoid giving manually the command, is there some script I can modify so that kdm is restarted automatically once it has started?

edit: never mind the last question, just add "restart kdm" in your /etc/rc.local and you are good to go.

5 reboots so far and clean unmounting!
