    Problems with knetworkmanager

    I used karmic before and never got knetworkmanager working. I used
    Code:
    /etc/init.d/networking start
    to get the wlan up and connected.
    Now I upgraded to lucid and still can not get knetworkmanger working. And now the networking service is not started automatically.
    Any hints to get either knetworkmanager running or service networking started at startup?

    Can you be a little specific as to what is not working and what hardware you are using.

    My HP dv9000 is working perfectly with knetworkmanager on lucid

    I have a bmc4300 series card

      WLAN is Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5100
      The SSID is hidden. I am using WPA-PSK2 Personal. The login key is the same I used before (that is working).
      It seem that knetworkmanager does not try to access the router. ifconfig shows the the wlan is up but no ip address.

        Just for testing, unhide the SSID and see if that makes any difference.

          knetworkmanager works when ssid is broadcasted

            Intersting. IIRC, someone posted that Wicd isn't able to connect to APs with hidden SSIDs. I hadn't heard that Knetworkmanager can't either.

              Even with essid set to "any"?

                I haven't tried to set essid to any and hide the ssid broadcast.But I removed knetworkmanager and network-manager and edited
                /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state:
                Code:
                [main]
                NetworkingEnabled=false
                WirelessEnabled=false
                WWANEnabled=false
                and edited /etc/network/interfaces to suit my needs.
