    A couple more questions...

    Hi all...

This issue is a continuation of this thread.

The Nvidia FX 5200 runs a lot of the graphics much better but for some reason it stutters when it comes to flash videos (such as Youtube) and games. Is there a way I can fix this?

Also, does anyone know of a good, cheap, wireless card or USB device that works out of the box with Ubuntu/Kubuntu? I'm needing this computer to be able to connect to a wireless router a few feet away through a couple walls. I looked into creating a wireless bridge with an old router I have but my model, a Netgear WGR614 v9, isn't supported yet by dd-wrt.

    Thanks!

    Hi all...

On the other hand, why don't I save a lot of time and money by picking up one of these instead? From what I understand, they are Linux compatible out the box.

I would still like help with the video card, though. It works well, I was just hoping to fine tune it and see if the stuttering could be removed, even though it's not that bad. Oddly enough, in that way, the Intel chipset worked better. No stuttering with it.

    Regards...

I bought three Linksys WUSB 100 usb wireless devices dirt cheap a couple of years ago. They worked out of the box. All are still working.

Hello. In all fairness, that video card came out in 2003, so it's a little long in the tooth in computer years. However FWIW I have read that installing an older driver (Nvidia 96) may help, assuming you are using the proprietary drivers. Since your on AGP, I would maybe see about trading that 5200 for a 5700 since they should be around the same price. But in either case using an older driver is more likely to yield better FX support.

        Good luck!

          Hi guys...

Thanks for your replies and help.

Admittedly, I'm very leery of changing the drivers. I had lousy results (resulting in a re-installation of the OS) the last time I tried that.
