[SOLVED] Changing the screensize from 1028 x 768 to higher

    Hello,

just installed kubuntu 10.4 on toshiba satellite c660D-14E screen 15.6".

As everything looks distorted, I wanted naturally to change the resolution to something like 1366x768 but maximum available size is 1024 x 768.

    xrandr gives

    xrandr
    Screen 0: minimum 800 x 600, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1024 x 768
    default connected 1024x768+0+0 0mm x 0mm
    1024x768 61.0*
    800x600 61.0

    lspci | grep -i vga
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Device 9803

    Any suggestions how to proceed?

    thanx in advance

Sounds like new video drivers are in order.

Kmenu --> Applications --> System -- Additional Drivers

should offer you ATI drivers that solve the problem.

    Hope this helps -

this was my question - as there are no drivers on the list - list is empty. So how then the procedure works? Is there some depository of them or what? I have no experience in installing drivers in kubuntu - so far everything worked perfect.

do u know exactly what card you have, if so you can always try the driver from the ati web page..

plus if thats super new hardware (quick search shows its a newer model.) it might not be completely working yet. PLease note Long Term support DOES NOT mean Hw Support , you might have to try maverick or natty (or maybe even oneric) to get a working version of the open ati driver for that card.

Re: Changing the screensize from 1028 x 768 to higher

I found on AMD webpage the following driver

                AMD Catalyst™ 11.6 Proprietary Linux x86 Display Driver 72.0 MB 11.6 6/15/2011

                which gives then ati-driver-installer-11-6-x86.x86_64.run

would be thankful for any further suggestions now how to proceed?
