    Plasma desktop constantly crashing.

    Hi Guys,

    I'm not sure what's going on with my laptop, but plasma desktop has been constantly crashing for the last few weeks and I'm getting a bit tired of it. It usually just restarts itself and on we go, but not always.

    This happens upto once an hour. I've looked around but I can't find anything in any logs that would point me to the reason behind this. Any clues?

    Ta

    Peter.

    Hardware. If nothing is logging, it almost always hardware. Watch your GPU temps and see if that the cause.

      Ok, could be, but I'm a bit sceptical because the only thing that crashes is plasma, any apps that are running at the time carry on regardless.

        I've forgotten if the thread was here and/or a bug report on launchpad, but I followed a suggestion to switch to Colibri for notifications and haven't had the plasma crashes since.

          Hi ronw,
          if you could find where you got that information and post it, it would be of help to others having the same problem. -Thanks.

            $ sudo apt-get install colibri

            Then follow the author's setup guide to turn off plasma's notifications and turn on colibri's:

                That did the trick it seems. No crash all day. Fantastic. Thanks ronw. The version in the repo's is pretty old, but I couldn't get the source to compile anyway, so this is all good.

                Thanks for the input

                Peter.

                  I hadn't noticed the version. Looks like 0.3.0 was a minor update:

                  http://agateau.com/2013/05/15/colibri-0.3.0/

                  Link to his PPA with 0.3.0 at the bottom of that page.
