According to KDE Plasma 5.8.8 LTS Desktop Environment Released with Various Improvements time-stamped Oct 25, 2017 18:16 GMT, KDE Plasma 5.8.8 is available but I've just checked for updates but haven't got it.
I'm still on KDE Plasma 5.8.7 (Qt 5.6.1) and I do have kubuntu-backports :(
