Cannot find Desktop Cube, greyed out in Screen Edges

Recent Kubuntu 16.04.1 LTS intall

Kernel: x86_64 Linux 4.4.0-34-generic
DE: KDE 5.23.0 / Plasma 5.6.5
WM: KWin

Desktop Cube appears nowhere in Desktop Effects and is greyed out in Screen Edges.

I don't see others posting about this.

What am I missing please?

Desktop Cube doesn't appear in the Desktop Effects as it does in earlier versions of Kubuntu.

Check to see if Desktop Cube is selected in System Settings, Desktop Behavior, Virtual Desktops, Switching tab, Desktop Effect Animation.

Exclude found 'cube' only with "Exclude DE not supported by the Compositor"

From there I enabled it, it is no longer greyed out in Screen Edges but when I apply it does not trigger either by screen edge or with ctl-F11.

And when I go back into System Settings cube is gone from DE but still not greyed out in Screen Edges

Not sure what to do in Compositor but it looked okay to me. but "not supported by Compositor" concerns me.

Help appreciated.

Also of note, System Settings crashed twice while I was playing with it.

try changing your compositor rendering backend to OpenGL from xrender.

Cube now appears without filtering and responds to triggers

Yay teamwork ,,,,,

just a FYI ,,,,xrender is allso the fall back if ,,,,lets say some effect crashes GL and will be set as the compositor automatically so the desktop can still run ,,,,,disabling the effect that caused it then reseting the compositor to OpenGL will give you back your effects.
