    Netgear WG111v2 not detected

    Hi all,
Last night i installed the latest Kubuntu and I have never ever used linux before. I wanted to try something different from windows and after reading that Kubuntu is very easy to use for beginners, i installed it. I managed to install everything cleanly from the disc, but my wireless USB adapter isnt being detected. I didnt plug it in during installation as I though maybe i would plug it in after the installation and it would work just fine.. but it didn't even detect that i plugged it in
I dont have programming experience and i managed to download the drivers from http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...eyword=RTL8187

but now I have no clue as to how to install them. Im used to windows where you just click on the setup file and it does it for you, why cant it be just as simple with Kubuntu?! Can someone please guide me? I would also like to install Kubuntu on my IBM Thinkpad, but im afraid to have no internet access at all then. I really want to make a switch from Windows, help me please!

I just installed Kubuntu "Breezy" on my laptop as well hoping that maybe my laptop would be able to connect to the wireless network using my PCMCIA wifi cards, but it didn't either. I have to different PCMCIA Wifi cards and try plugging each one in at different times hoping they would get detected, but they dont. I downloaded linux drivers, a file ending with .TAR extension but I have no idea how this is installed. What happened to just click on a setup file and everythings done? Thank God i partitioned my disc on the laptop and have both Windows XP Pro and Linux Kubuntu installed, so when I need to connect to the internet i just use windows. This sucks because almost everything I do is online!

P.S. All the people reading my post have nothing to say?!

Try https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WifiDocs, in particular the troubleshooting guide. If you cannot make it work try this to use a windows driver: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper. You may also want to google linux and your network card chipset mfr to find soem tricks. I had to go the the linux driver site (that shipped with kubutu) to find the secret (at least to me) commands that send config codes direct to the board.

      good luck!
