Boot loop for Kubuntu on lenovo thinkpad t14 gen 2

I just installed Kubuntu on my thinkpad from a bootable USB. I can boot from the USB just fine, but after I install Kubuntu onto the hard drive and try to boot from there, I end up in a start up loop. The diagnostic screen will come on, then a few seconds later there will be a black screen with 'system reset' in the top left corner. The power button will flash, the keyboard lights will come on, and the fan engages, and then I am sent back to the diagnostic screen and the cycle repeats.

I can still access the boot menu to boot from the USB, there are some errors that display, shown below

[ 0.582717] pci 0000:00:07.0: DPC: RP PIO log size 0 is invalid
[ 0.584114] pci 0000:00:07.2: DPC: RP PIO log size 0 is invalid
[ 0.681473] ACPI FPDT: [Firmware Bug]: Invalid record 4113 found
[ 11.320649] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] No Caching mode page found
[ 11.320741] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Assuming drive cache: write through

Suggestions on how to get out of the loop would be much appreciated
