streaming divx with vlc and xine help

Ok, Ive looked around on this forum, but havent seen the answer, but you know how that goes. My problem is that Ive tried installing xine and installing vlc to stream media. Xine refuses to stream whatsoever. Ok, np, I figured Id try VLC as I head so much about it for streaming. Good to go actually, it does stream, but inside the browser if does not have any buttons, no pause stop etc. Im looking for a way to stream with either one of these two, as I currently use gnome-player, but Id really like to avoid using such a gnome program. Ive installed the plugins for firefox for both, but xine just flat out refuses to stream.

Ive used kaffeine with varying levels of success, but Id like a way to be able to see the cache level like gnome-mplayer displays so I know how much is cached.

any help would be appreciated, as Im a relative newbie to linux and a complete newbie to kde. Ive tested gnome but just like this layout better. Thanks.
