How to make my network multifunctional scan in Kubuntu (7.10)

Hi guys, I am relatively new to Linux (using it since Feb this year).
I have had great success switching from the other OS and never looked back,
however, there is something that is pushing me to login in Windows:

at work, we have this lexmark multifunctional that is on the network and in order to scan with it, I need to create a profile thru the device webpage (java applets). Everything seems to work fine, it creates the profile but when it is supposed to write the file (receive it), it appears that it never receives it. I guess that it has to do with the security of the system and things like that, but is there a way to 'open' a port or something to allow that external device (network scanner) write to a directory in my ?/home directory?

I have tried changing the permissions of the directory to allow all users to write to it but no success.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The scanner sends the scan in pdf format, writing it directly to the hard disk of the machine where the profile was created from.

    THanks a lot.
Working...
