How to install a downloaded .deb or .gz file?

I would keep both Firefoxes if I were you (the one from Mozilla.org and the Snap)- otherwise you could have trouble during the next release-upgrade… They are named differently in the application menu so you can keep them apart.

This is exactly the kind of advice I'm looking for. Thanks. But, are you suggesting that I have both the distribution's snapped Fx and Mozilla's binary version of Fx? I assume not; that wouldn't make any sense to me. I imagine that Kubuntu wouldn't maintain Mozilla's version, so I'd have to maintain its updates myself, right? I don't mind doing that. But if you are, what's the point of keeping both? Care to tell me how to get Mozilla's Firefox?

You don't have to de-snap Kubuntu to use the Firefox binary (you can use it additionally to the Snap version)- but I would strongly suggest to use the Firefox binary from Mozilla.org if you want to keep Snap in *Ubuntu (e.g. to have no hassle when doing a release-upgrade in the future).
The Firefox binary from Mozilla.org has zero effects on the rest of Kubuntu's "design" or any updates - you will just have two different Firefoxes in your application menu to choose from if you keep the Snap version too.

If you don't want to keep Snap it comes down to personal preference which Firefox you choose (the one from Mozilla.org or the one from the Mozilla Team PPA).

How does that affect Kub's updates and the rest of its current design? Also, what's your all's experience with a de-snapped Kubuntu? Has anyone experimented with Flatpack?

IF we knew THE EXTENSION or whatever it is YOU ARE TRYING TO INSTALL it would help a LOT here.

Maybe the things is outdated, maybe there are *buntu 22.04+ based instructions, etc, et al,ad nauseum.

I'm aware of that, but I don't see why the .deb one, designed specifically for all Debian based distros shouldn't work; it has before. Any you're right about this downloader's being the one I'm trying to get going. I've been using it for years, always with the .deb installer. I just realized what the problem is: 22.04's snaps! Now I have to get around that.

If above is the extension you're trying to install from a .deb, you can try the targz install; maybe that one works.

When you cd into the extracted directory, have a look around if there is a README or INSTALL file; they usually contain instructions on how to install...

My 1:37 p.m. yesterday post partially answered this. The .deb file is the one to the video downloader extension, even though it's not a Debian-based extension. See that post for more.
The .gz file is the one for (re)installing the printer driver. This one I don't know how to use. When I right-click it, the only options are "Open with Ark" or "Open with ...". If I Open with Ark, it asks where I want to Extract it to, and I don't know what to do with that. I believe this is my problem, where I'm stuck.

But.....what specific file(s) downloaded from where?
We can give better information if we know exactly what the thing is, so we can maybe look at it ourselves, along with you. To give more specific help. Find specific instuctions
Maybe what you downloaded is outdated, or something. Maybe there is a better option, a newer, or more appropriate file?

We can always give vague, general suggestions or steps, but there would be a LOT less confusion and irrelevant, distracting stuff if we have more to go with.
