    Installing a tar file?

I've never been any good at this....

I have downloaded PixInsight (for Linux) and have made its own sub-directory. The route to that is home/PixInsight. It might be home/greg/PixInsight but at any rate I can see the sub-directories with Dolphin.
I have extracted the download file there.
I have clicked on the "Installer" file a couple of times and nothing happens, or so it seems.
Can someone help with the process from here?
    Thanks
    Greg

Is there a README file? This 'tar ball' files normally have one, and it contains installation instructions -- normally.

But a quick Google search comes up with: Linux Installation - PixInsight Resources

There are 10 of them but none of them have to do with actually installing the body of the software. They all see to have to do with various aspects of the program, like fonts etc.

Checkout the link I included. It's in Spanish (?), but the video shows you the process.

          Wow!
I have never seen such a layered installation process. They really don't want you to get this.
Thanks for that link I did follow it and it lead to yet another series of logon secret file things....and it is not mentioned elsewhere.
I think I have it installed and updated now, but I'm not certain.
          Thank you.

There doesn't seem to be a desktop icon or listing in program startup column?

              https://pixinsight.com/forum/index.p...n-linux.14324/

You have to run the installer file via the terminal, or as the video shows, click the executable file shown to run it locally without installing.

The guys at PixInsight need to hire you guys to tell people how to install it.

                  That did it.
Seems like it is working, but I might be back later.
