Glad you got it sorted. This was an easy one - I spotted it right way, lol.

Welcome to the forum. I hope you learn to enjoy Kubuntu!

Also, I want to thank you for taking the time to provide this much detail. All too often, people will ask for help without providing enough usable information or reporting what they've tried. Even simple issues like this one turned out to be can passed over if others feel like they need to drag the details out of the poster. Good job!

    Date issue in kubuntu 26.04

    Dear All,

I am facing a sudden issue with my laptop's system date and would appreciate some help fixing it. i checked CMOS bios battery it is perfect. in bios it shows correct time and date only in kubuntu it shows different.

    My Location/Context:
    • Location: Chennai, India
    • Current Actual Date: 1st November 2026
    • OS/System: Kubuntu 26.04 laptop (Region set to India, date format was correct so many days after installation of kubuntu. suddenly today only i noticed this change. i am not sure from when i am facing this issue).
    The Issue:

Whenever I log in and log out, my system date changes unexpectedly. Initially, I noticed that the day was correct, but the month or date kept changing to random numbers. if i move my mouse pointer it shows right time and date. but in display it shows wrong.
To troubleshoot, I restarted my laptop a few times. Now, the system is displaying an entirely incorrect date: 01/14/2026 ( in the date the middle number 14 only keeps on changing. sometimes it even goes 29, 54, 36 etc., see the attached screnshots. i am not sure from where it is pulling the date or month as 29 or 54 , 36 etc.

the system time remains perfectly accurate. I have verified the regional settings; the country is still correctly set to India, and the date/time formats appear configuration-wise correct. if i take the mouse pointer to system tray date time. it highlights the correct date and time. may be the display is wrong.

    My Concerns:
Because the system date is wrong, I am worried this will disrupt or corrupt data in my applications (like LibreOffice, thunderbird mail etc) and affect secure web browsing.
Has anyone encountered this sudden date-shifting behavior before? What steps can I take to fix this and stop the date from changing on its own? if i manually change it is correct after i restart the same issue.

Thank you in advance for your support.
