Hmm. I installed Karmic on my Thinkpad yesterday. Mostly things are okay, but nothing is being recognized when I plug into my USB ports. For example, I plug a USB memory stick in and /dev/ is completely unchanged, whereas I'd probably expect /dev/sdb to appear. The device notifier widget doesn't see anything I insert, and nor does Dolphin.
However, dmesg does suggest something is going on. For example, I plug in a USB stick and get:

[EDIT!] I found (for some reason I'm not sure about) that I had kernel 2.6.31.5 on my disk as well as 2.6.31.8. This problem is there in 2.6.31.8 but the problem disappears with 2.6.31.5.
