[SOLVED] uvcvideo - hang during boot (chicony usb webcam on toshiba a200)

My laptop has a Chicony usb webcam which worked perfectly with the uvcvideo driver on gutsy
Installing it in hardy causes the laptop to hang on boot; no message displayed - just stops booting; removing the uvcvideo module restores everything to normal.
Has anyone else encountered something similar, or is there some workaround?

Edit: problem solved either by the kernel update, driver update or by blacklisting uvcvideo in linux-restricted-modules-common
