I just finished installing kubuntu gutsy on a Eeepc. i used the isotousb.sh script found here http://www.startx.ro/sugar/ to make the usb install drive. Use this command to run the script making sure of that /dev/sdbx is where your drive is mounted.
sudo ./isotostick.sh eeexubuntu-7.10.3-desktop-i386.iso /dev/sdb1
from the dir where the iso is stored, and obviously using the correct file name of the iso.
The usb stick must be formatted to fat16 or fat32 depending on the version of syslinux you use. The drive then must be flagged bootable. This can all be done using gparted.
I made two install drives, one with kubuntu 7.1 and the other with EeeXubuntu 7.1. The latter has all the tweaks for eeepc xG (8G in this case).

The following url gives instructions for setting up the verizon/sprint usb727 aircard.

You must activate the card using vzaccess software on a windows or mac before you can actually connect.
However if you bug verizon customer service enough like I did they may give you access to the linux software reserved for enterprise customers >. I then activated the card on the kubuntu laptop.
Then I plugged the card into my desktop and ran kppp (after following the instructions above) and had a successful connection.
One downside so far is that konqueror does not work with the aircard.
