can not upgrade to 19.10 do to unmet dependancies

I just succeded in upgrading but the file system mouted at / was unresponsive for a bit.

Nope. One of the PPA maintainers is a Kubuntu tester who hangs out in our IRC. I just directly let him know of the issue.

Today's update fixes this. I posted in nvidia forums so that may be why it got fixed but it offered to do the update when I checked. I have to go to work in a few minutes so I aborted the upgrade until I get home but tonight I should be able to get 19.10. Yes, acheron you were right. The update was to fix nvidia-settings. The screen resolution thing. I knew there had to be something borked. I was right. It was one of the nividia packages. Whether NVIDIA goofed or the Ubuntu devs goofed someone goofed.

This looks to be a packaging error in 'nvidia-settings' in the graphics drivers PPA. That packaging declares that it depends on the package screen-resolution-extra (>= 0.18~), but disco only has version 0.17.4.

One temporary solution may be to remove the nvidia-settings package, upgrade, then reinstall it? Or ppa-purge the ppa 1st.

I just tried using Muon to upgrade nvidia-settings and the apply button remains greyed out. Does this suggest the package is broken or something? If I remove it will it hurt my driver?

Perhapes apt needs to be more verbose is there a switch that makes the ouput more verbose?

We could tell more if we had the actual apt error messages...

I copied and pasted the output of all those commands you guys suggested. If there were any error messages then they would be there. Are there any logs someplace that might give useful information?

Use the command

sudo do-release-upgrade -d

Upgraded to 19.10 this way this afternoon.
