Wow, that was easy, LOL.
If you are using 18.04 on a new-ish PC you might consider trying the newer Hardware Enablement Stack (HWE) which comes with the 4.18 series of kernels.
I think this does it all:
sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-18.04
p.s. I marked the thread "Solved" for you.

Bingo ! As soon as i booted my previous kernel, problem solved ! Why didn't i think of that ? Probably because i seldom boot a *buntu these days. I have now installed the current 4.15.0-48 kernel which also works fine. Thanks so very much for the suggestion !Originally posted by oshunluvr View PostEverything I find relates this to a kernel problem.Last edited by baldyeti; Apr 30, 2019, 08:25 AM.

Everything I find relates this to a kernel problem. What kernel you using? Have you upgraded to the newest hardware stack?

cannot login to text console
I have this weird problem for quite a while and updates have not fixed it like i hoped.
When trying to login to one of the text console (say Ctrl-Alt-F5), i can type my username alright,
but as soon as i hit Enter, it is as if i had hit it several times and i cannot even type my password.
Instead i get several login/password prompts as if Enter/Return had been hit 5 or 6 times.Tags: None
