    Amharic layout support

Amharic is an official language of Ethiopia a country with a population over 100 millions people, however, Kubuntu doesn't seem to support it out of the box. One can pick Amharic layout in settings but it is an absolute crap - you cannot type most of the syllabic letters with it. I have tried to configure iBus but wasn't satisfied with it. First, because the native layout support is much better. It allows you to switch keyboard with CapsLosk and to separate layouts. The last one is a great feature for those who use three and more layouts. And it isn't clear how one switch smoothly between two input methods.
In Ubuntu starting at least from 16.04 one can install a package "ibus-m17n" and access all different elaborate typing systems from the native input engine which is very simple and great. Is it possible to achieve it in Kubuntu?
Could you please share your method of dealing with marginalised languages in Kubuntu?
