No problem! Just make a text file in your home directory (inside Dolphin) and press [F3] to go to Split Screeen mode. Then, using Dolphin, move it to a directory using drag-and-drop somewhere in root directory [/] - [/temp] would be a good candidate. When you do so you will be prompted for your password. Then the move will be complete. Hope this helps.

You can use Dolphin as root - if you perform an action requiring root, Dolphin will prompt for your root password. No need to launch as root. Tested today.

Found that they all three could open txt-files from the context menu if I did not use them as Root. Had used 'sudo krusader' so thought it should perhaps be 'kdesudo krusader' - but still the same problem.

Downgraded Dolphin to ver 15.12.3 and it seems to work OK as Root. Also installed Krusader and Nautilus and can run them as Root.
However, neither of the three can open a txt-file with the context menu (Kate, Kwrite - but LibreOffice Writer works). With Dolphin the error message is "KDEInit could not launch /usr/bin/kate", with Krusader and Nautilus no message. Does not seem to be a permissions problem as the txt-files can be opened from the apps (Kate, Kwrite).

Earlier: Question - How do I handle the pending loss of root access to Dolphin and Kate? - https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showth...lphin-and-Kate
Short with the Dolphin:
- You could use other file managers.
- You could rebuild the Dolphin without the root check.

Dolphin Root
Had a very smooth upgrade from 17.04 to 17.10. Only problem is that Dolphin Root won't run. In terminal I get the message: "Executing Dolphin as root not possible". What to do? I do need a root file manager and lost my preferred Konqueror with the previous upgrade.
