Am running Xenial LTS in VMWare for testing. I cannot get the auto-login function to remain checked: on reboot I am presented with the login screen each time and the box in user access is cleared.
Fixed! I needed also to go to Startup and Shutdown -> Login Screen -> Advanced and check the button "autologin"
What was NOT working was ticking "Automatic login" in the User Manager.
