    I am using the Steam beta and I had a similar issue where the app would load but the store page did not and my installed games were not showing up.
    The content was there, but Steam was buggered for a build. I was also getting a /bin/dash crash with it starting up.

    Issue is no more for me after a Steam update and some kub updates.

    I just discovered this on the Steam forums. All my games are back now. If it weren’t for that erroneous error message, me and a lot of others might have solved this a lot sooner.

    O looks like VINNY already found this. I didn't see that when I posted this.

    OK got it ,,,,,,,,,go to your old(the one your having trouble attaching) /steam/ folder (the one that contains "SteamApps" folder and do
    Code:
    ln -s SteamApps steamapps
    the new updates to steam make it look for steamapps instead of SteamApps ,,,,,stupid mistake on their part IMO

    I can now attach it as a new library folder and it sees my old games

    PS a google search for the hole error message led me to this https://steamcommunity.com/app/22141...7316152433246/

    Code:
    vinny@debian:/mnt/btrfs/kubuntu/steam$ ln -s SteamApps steamapps
    vinny@debian:/mnt/btrfs/kubuntu/steam$ ls
    steamapps  SteamApps
    vinny@debian:/mnt/btrfs/kubuntu/steam$

    just so you know ,,,,,, I am having this exact same issue @hear ,,,,,,,,,as a test I installed steam on my Debian system last night ,,,,,,,,,I used steams settings>downloads>set library location ,,,,,to my steam folder on my storage drive (that Kubuntu-14.04 uses just fine ,,,,,but have not checked that it still is) and am getting the same error .

    I did find some posts on the net saying that the "executable" checker in steam is ,,,,not working right ATM. ,,,,but thay were a few months old and should have been fixed by now .

    My primary drive has the same attributes as my secondary drive r,w,x and it works with steam. Why doesn’t my secondary drive work with steam? I submitted a ticket to steam tech support about a week ago but so far no response.

    At this point I am thinking its probably a Steam for Linux problem since it seems to be mounted correctly. The attributes for everything are r w x. I emailed Steam support. Hopefully they will say something soon.

    This one looks like it might be a similar problem.

    Does this help?

    From http://steamcommunity.com/app/221410...5961933411920/
    Mark has Steam for Linux Jun 29 @ 5:41pm
    Also steam isn't compatible with x86_64 libraries, perhaps adding i386 as an architecture to the package manager may work. But I have no idea of how the installation is done in Ubuntu, I do know how it works in Debian & Gentoo.

    See, in Debian we I have acquired the .deb packages and ran the following:
    $ dpkg -i steam_latest.deb
    $ apt-get install -f

    It pulled many i386 libraries to my system since I have previously added i386 to dpkg with the following command:
    $ dpkg --add-architecture i386

    But if this user doesn't have the proprietary graphics card drivers then how is he supposed to run games?

    I would suggest the author to run the following:
    $ glxinfo | grep rendering
    $ glxgears

    To give us an idea of what might be happening.

    Edit: Also check if you're in the "video" group.

    Steam still gives the same error message.

    Playing a game only needs permission to enter andread permissions.installing needs non-root/admin write permissions in addition.

    The root SteamLibrary folder seems to have correct permisions:
    Code:
    steve7233@steve7233-EP45-UD3P:/media/steve7233/Steam for Linux$ ls -l
    total 20
    drwxr-xr-x 2 steve7233 steve7233 16384 Sep 25  2014 lost+found
    drwxrwxr-x 3 steve7233 steve7233  4096 Apr 23 11:59 SteamLibrary
    But perhaps a folder inside does not have that, which is why I suggested chown the whole thing to your user account.

    I also wondered if the spaces in the mount point are a problem, as it sometimes is in Linux. But you said it was working previously, and I am assuming that the directory name has not been changed.

    I didn't work. Someone posted that the driver was the problem. Why should I need to change permissions since the already installed games work? This Steam behaviour seems weird but if it is a know Steam issue then maybe it won't work until Valve debugs their client.

    Graphics drivers will have zero to do with directory permissions and physically installing a game.

    With your partition with the steam library mounting now, have you changed ownership on the files/folders to your user? Does the full path to the library match what it is set to in Steam?

    I just discovered on the Steam forums that Steam for Linux is not fully compatible with Ubuntu 15.04! It seems that to run the Steam installer you have to not use the proprietary graphics driver or it will fail to install.I am going to try switching to the open graphics driver to install my game then switch back to run it. I will post whether that worked on not.
