    Can not set date and time automatically

    In System settings > locale, I have my country set to France. In date and time, the time zone is set to Paris (which is UTC+2). But when I pick a time server, either pool.ntp.org or europe.pool.ntp.org and click on apply, everything goes gray for a few seconds, then pops up with UTC (2 hours behind) and the "Set date and time automatically" box un-clicked.

    Maybe this is related to my language problem, which I cannot figure out either:

    $ locale
    LANG=en_US.UTF-8
    LANGUAGE=en_US:en:fr
    LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_NUMERIC=en_US.UTF-8
    LC_TIME=en_US.UTF-8
    LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_MONETARY=en_US.UTF-8
    LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8"
    LC_PAPER=en_US.UTF-8
    LC_NAME=en_US.UTF-8
    LC_ADDRESS=en_US.UTF-8
    LC_TELEPHONE=en_US.UTF-8
    LC_MEASUREMENT=en_US.UTF-8
    LC_IDENTIFICATION=en_US.UTF-8
    LC_ALL= # so lanuage is english everywhere, and yet
    jon@jon-desktop:~$ bltsflk
    bltsflk*: commande introuvable # system error message in french

    Or maybe they are separate problems.

    Btw, when I roll the mousewheel over the clock display, what are the thee things it is showing? One says "UTC", another "Paris" and the 3rd nothing special. But all give the same time, UTC. And says Paris is UTC, which it is NOT!

    So what gives?
