Boot failure when on wireless network

I have installed Natty 11.04 (KDE) on a laptop with no problems. The laptop has both wired & wireless interfaces. Both interfaces work. The problem is that KDE hangs at the splash screen unless the laptop is connected to the network via the wired interface.

I'm a Linux newbie and don't have a clue why the boot would depend on a wired network connection.

    Help ?
