    kacpi_notify eats CPU time

I have one computer that is an HP Pavillion 533w with an Intel Celeron processor.
I also have an Nvidia FX 5200 PCi card for graphics.

This machine has been a slug since I upgraded to 10.10.

One thing I noticed with the System Activity tool is the process kacpi_notify is taking the lead on CPU load, taking 30% up to 67%. I tried the kernel directive acpi=off, and lost the keyboard.
There is nothing in the BIOS to tweak.

Is there a tweak in the config files that I could fix this?

I also have a desktop and laptop with AMD processors, and this is not a problem.
In fact, the AMD machines really fly.

I also played with Powerdevil, and this did nothing.
Nothing out otf the ordinary in the System Logs.

    Suggestions?
