l Boot Up Fails

I have Ubuntu 10.04, Mepsi, and Windows XP. I installed Kubuntu from synaptic. When I boot up Gnome, x Term, and Kubuntu show up in the sessions choices. If I pick Gnome and enter the password it opens up. If I pick KDE and enter the password it opens the Splash screen with the Icons showing in the center box. Then it drops back to the Password and sessions choice screen. KDE never opens beyond the opening splash screen.
Any Ideas?
